Biomaterials Science And Implants : Stat

Biomaterials as a research theme is highly socially relevant with impactful applications in

human healthcare. In this context, this book provides a state-of-the-art perspective on

biomaterials research in India and globally. It presents a sketch of the Indian landscape

against the backdrop of the international developments in biomaterials research.

Furthermore, this book presents highlights from major global institutes of importance,

and challenges and recommendations for bringing inventions from the bench to the

bedside. It also presents valuable information to those interested in existing issues

pertaining to developing the biomaterials research ecosystem in developing countries.

The contents also serve to inspire and educate young researchers and students to take up

research challenges in the areas of biomaterials, biomedical implants, and regenerative

medicine. With key recommendations for developing frontier research andpolicy, it

also speaks to science administrators, policymakers, industry experts, and entrepreneurs on

helping shape the future of biomaterials research and development.

Bikramjit Basu is currently a Professor at the Materials Research Center and holds Associate Faculty position at Center for Biosystems Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. He is appointed as Visiting Professor at University of Manchester, UK (2018-23) and at the European Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, Trenčín, Slovakia (2020-21). Bikramjit’s current research integrates biomaterials science and bioengineering approaches to address human healthcare challenges. Prof. Basu’s contributions in engineering sciences have been nationally and globally recognised. He received India’s most prestigious science and technology award, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 2013 for contributions to Biomaterials Science. A Chartered Engineer of the UK, he is an elected Fellow of the International Academy of Medical & Biological Engineering (2020), International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (2020), Indian A^ 10,700 and H-index: 55). He has directed two large multi-institutional Indo-US and Indo-UK Biomaterials centers. Currently, he is the Lead Principal Investigator of the Translational Center of Excellence on biomaterials for orthopedic and dental applications, comprising of a national consortium of 43researchersfrom 8academic and medical institutes of India.
