Bird Calls

BIRD CALLS is a collection rooted in the natural world. Arranged in sections named for different species of birds, each corresponds to a theme--longing, discovery, loss, communion, and wisdom. Marked by exquisite description and a depth of understanding, Mello brings the full force of a life lived fully to these highly readable, memorable poems.

Daughter of immigrants, elementary school teacher for over three decades, musician, artist, naturalist, and poet, Maria Mello graces her writing with the gifts of careful observation, time spent out-of-doors, and the insights and visions of seventy-five years. Her work has been published in various small presses, and is often read aloud to enthusiastic audiences.
