A Bird Stuck on the Sky (Paperback)

Paperback. This fictional tale is based on the author's factual experiences as a psychotherapist and is set as a puzzle to test the reader's observational and analytical skills. In the main narrative, assorted stories serve as jigsaw pieces with a covert repetitive motif and clues to connect them. Mike is a cognitive psychologist who struggles with a dark secret of his own. Helen, his wife, is obsessed by a family tragedy. He ignores the unwritten law of professionals not to attempt treating personal matters. Lacking objectivity, his futile efforts contrast with his competence with patients. Trapped in a mind-set and incapable of seeing the wood he puts his 'happy family' marriage - and more - in danger. Will he escape from his rigid approach to his problems in time to avoid disastrous consequences? The story examines how seemingly complex conditions can be resolved through discussion and interpretation; and how we all struggle to resolve our personal battles the best way we know how. Mike successfully helps resolve some astonishing cases. Why does one patient believe the devil visits her? Why does another claim to be persecuted by strangers? What generates a recurrent dream of flying onto an island? Why is a man afraid to undertake long journeys from home? Why does a wife's dress terrify her husband? These and many more questions have fascinating answers. Can you come close to discovering the full picture before it emerges in the final chapters? This item is printed on demand.
