Lisa Poelle teaches at City University of New York School of Professional Studies and is an independent consultant to parents, teachers, caregivers, and early childhood programs. With more than 25 years of experience in child development, child guidance, and parent education, she is a popular speaker at early childhood conferences and professional development training seminars.

Poelle began researching biting in the 1980's when, as a consultant to dozens of childcare centers, she was often asked to observe children with a habit of frequent biting. What she found in each case were several reasons for the behavior, and that solutions required more changes from the adults than from the child. In fact, adults were often unwittingly making the problem worse. But when they learned to see the situation through the child's point of view, and implement key changes, the biting was successfully solved. 

A California native, Poelle earned her B.A./M.A. at Pacific Oaks College. The mother of two grown sons, she now lives in Manhattan with her husband, a school administrator.
