The Black Lab & the Robin

This story showcases the love and caring between two unlikely friends, the black lab and the robin.

This is a true story of the Ready family's dog Ebony. She was the best animal companion their family ever had. She would sit with family members at the top of the stairs and listen to them vent and keep them company when they were sad and needed comfort. Ebony passed away in February 2016 at home with Susan and her husband at the age of 15. The robin did come back to visit that spring and it broke the family's hearts when it couldn't find its furry friend. Susan wrote this story in Ebony's honour.

Susan Ready was a cherished wife and beloved mother of four. She was a remarkable person and will be fondly remembered for being fun, caring, compassionate, and supportive, as well as for her love of her children, shoes, and Christmas. Susan touched many lives through community engagement and volunteering, as well as through her career as a registered nurse, fondly known as "Super Ready." She provided strength, encouragement, and a sense of hope when others couldn't see or feel it. Susan passed away suddenly in July 2021 in her 56th year. She will never be forgotten.
