The Blank Spaces This Book Brings Into Being explores the productive aspects of Absence, Silence, and Erasure, treating the unmarked portions of a page as a site of articulate, eloquent vacancy.

This project traces printed language’s negative contours, bringing Background forward and allowing Emptiness its assertions. As these pages unfold, Content meets its discontents and every letter creates its own signature, surrounding void.

Along a sentence’s event horizon lurks an aura of infinite options, “written” in a kind of alternative ink. Accordingly, a document’s gaps, pauses, and line-breaks form a non- semantic, dis-embodied, and un-intended field of ironies.

Kimo RedeR is a Professor of English at CUNY's Borough of Manhattan campus. He has previously published a survey of Manhattan's semiotic layout, an alternate account of the Tower of Babel ur-story, a poetic manual of the human hand, an index of "rogue linguistics," and a Pacific Rim moon-and-tide calendar. Twink Reder is a layout/design/text editor whose cartographic skills inform her approach to book-making and map-making alike. She is a graduate of UCLA's Department of Geography and an avid nature-trekker with a fondness for trails as well as texts. Previously, her photography, cartography and love of America's West Coast enhanced La Luna Neptuna: A Pacific Rim Prayer Wheel, while her fondness for etymology and multilingual wordplay inspired much of Every Syllable Begins a Universe (Rogue Linguistics Vol, 1).
