Synopsis
Gary Haun lost his eyesight in 1973 while serving on active duty with the United States Marine Corps. Since that time, Gary has not let blindness limit his passion for living life to its fullest. Gary has stood on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and swam with Great White sharks in South Africa. From skydiving to swimming with dolphins and manatees, Gary has found adventure in many different countries. As the Amazing Haundini, Gary has performed magic for audiences throughout the world. In Blind Artist, Gary shares his creative endeavors with a collection of his paintings and other art. Gary explains how painting has helped him to overcome adversity in his life. He also explains the methods and techniques he uses to create his art. Gary says his purpose in writing this book is to inspire others to create their own art and by doing so, discover the enjoyment and fulfillment of sharing their inner emotions and feelings. About Gary Haun As the Amazing Haundini, Gary Haun, has entertained audiences, both young and old, throughout the world. Although blind for over forty years, Gary has not let his limitations limit his passion for living life to its fullest. Gary has faced many challenges in his life. He climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and has swam with the Great White sharks in South Africa. He has been skydiving, competed in over one hundred karate tournaments and has taught Japanese swordsmanship. He has swam with dolphins and manatees and ran two marathons. His perspective is unique, not because of his blindness, but because of his attitude of what he calls, “Positively never giving up.” Gary is the author of several books including Vision From the Heart (Introduction by Dr. Jane Goodall), Reflections of Helen, Diary of a Blind Magician (with an Introduction by David Copperfield), Marine Corps Magic, The Visitor, Blind Artist: Introspective and Memory Recollections, and Gospel Magic for the Soul. He appeared on the Rosie O’Donnell show in 2000. He also appears in the film Jane’s Journey, a documentary about Gary’s close friend, Dr. Jane Goodall. The film also has appearances by Angelina Jolie and Pierce Brosnan. In the film Dr. Goodall states that her two most admired people are Nelson Mandela and Gary Haun. Gary was Retired (Medical) at the rank of Sergeant from the United States Marine Corps in 1973. He is a Life Member of the Marine Corps League and also a Life Member of both the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Blind Chapter and the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA). In 2012 Gary was selected to fly with the world famous Blue Angels all – Marine crew of “Fat Albert” at the Chicago Air and Water airshow.
