What?s Blocking the Drains?: A Headmaster?s Humorous Tale of Seventies Prep-School Life

Andrew Perry never intended to be a teacher, let alone a headmaster.

Intent on becoming an orchestral conductor, reality soon compelled a change of tune: he bought a school.

Plunging headlong into boarding prep-school life, it was serendipity - despite all the absurdities. The smell of overcooked cabbage and the long holidays combined to become his enduring passion for eleven years.

A merry blend of humorous memories from the seventies headmaster at the heart of a school.

Andrew Elliot Perry left school following a most undistinguished academic career and embarked on a musical career. After gaining a place at the Royal Academy of Music, he became director of music at Cheam School, Newbury. In 1972, he entered into partnership as headmaster of St. Piran's School, Maidenhead. In 1983, he left the profession and with his wife, Anne, started businesses in coffee shops, coffee roasting and a bakery. In 2003, these were sold to provide finance for the growing business of Cookfood, the brain-child of his son, Edward. He is married with four children and twelve grandchildren and lives in Kent.
