One Blue Fish: A Colorful Counting Book

Count from one to ten in this vibrant, graphically illustrated title from Charles Reasoner that introduces the first concepts of colors and counting!

PreS–Combining counting and color identification, this book introduces various pond-dwelling creatures. On the left side of the spread, a number from 1 to 10 is spelled out. On the right, the die-cut numeral is on a foldout flap. When the page is opened, a creature in the corresponding color and quantity is depicted with identifying text, such as “10 yellow ducks.” The layout successfully reinforces the simple concepts, and the bold digital illustrations are set against a solid background. This title is a fit selection for libraries in need of additional basic counting books.–Laura Butler, Mount Laurel Library, NJα(c) Copyright 2010.
