Reviews: Von Pressentin, who has previously contributed to this well-known series with the Blue Guide: New York (LJ 6/1/83), offers a new guide to help New York City visitors find the museum match for their personal interests. She also includes zoos and gardens. Entries vary in length (over 60 pages are devoted to highlights of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, less than half a page for many lesser-known museums) and include information on opening hours, eating facilities, and wheelchair access. Museums are arranged in general geographic categories (Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens), then listed alphabetically. Subject and museum name indexes are included, as well as maps and floor plans (not seen) for several of the larger institutions. This is primarily a reference book: useful, but not meant for armchair travelers. It is not essential but may fill a gap in larger public and academic libraries that have patron interest in New York City but lack the Official Museum Directory.?Linda M.
