Blues Harp from Scratch: Blues Harmonica for Absolute Beginners (Learn to Play (Music Sales))

Blues Harp from Scratch: Blues Harmonica for Absolute Beginners by Mick Kinsella is a blues harmonica instructional songbook for absolute beginners. It combines harmonica notation, instructional text, performance notes, exercises, songs, and black and white photos. The guide focuses on the sounds and techniques of blues harp while including familiar songs such as Amazing Grace and Oh Susanna.

The accompanying examples CD contains audio demonstrations of material presented in the lessons, providing an audible reference for how examples should sound. Musical content moves through C and G scales, blues scales, riffs, solos, note bending, blow bending, direct bending, the wah wah effect, head and tongue rolls, throat and jaw vibrato, tone control, and note splitting. These techniques give harmonica practice a musical context while developing the expressive bends, articulations, effects, and phrasing associated with blues playing.

Original blues pieces let players apply the techniques, while notation and audio demonstrations support practice.
