Body. City. Canvas. An Artist's Method

Body. City. Canvas. An Artist's Method

This book is a professional reflection on how artistic thinking is formed beyond techniques, trends, and industry formats. Written for artists, tattoo artists, street artists, and visual practitioners, it addresses those who work with real responsibility - toward the body, space, and time.

At the core of the book is a universal artistic method built around three interconnected environments: the body, the city, and the canvas. Through these three levels, the author examines how artistic thinking shifts, where the boundary between art and craft lies, why doubt is essential to authorship, and why tattooing is not a service, but an art form with long memory and lasting consequences.

The book is grounded not only in practice, but also in research. The author translates professional experience into analysis, structure, and method - not for theoretical abstraction, but for clarity, professional growth, and long-term thinking within the field.

Roman Zao (Zakharchenko) is a tattoo artist, street artist, visual artist, and researcher of visual culture. A judge at international tattoo conventions, participant and award recipient of professional competitions, and author of academic publications on tattoo art, body art, visual perception, and urban environments, he works across tattooing, murals, painting, and graphic design as interconnected forms of a single artistic mindset.

For Roman, art is not a form of self-expression, but a form of impact, dialogue, and responsibility. His professional focus is on what remains after the artist: an authorial language, a method of thinking, professional standards, and a cultural trace.
