About this title

Synopsis

Beautiful book of painting reproductions and essays cconcerning the theme of Christ's crucifixion, published by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Artists whose works are reproduced include Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Otto Dix, Williem de Kooning, Graham Sutherland, and Antonio Saura. Seven essays discuss why this subject is also a gesture and an act, and provide reasons why so many contemporary artists, both younger and older, have been drawn back to this subject.
