Having had a massive heart attack at age 35, accompanied by a family history of heart disease, led him to do extensive research in the area of physical fitness associated with decreased risk of disease and death. As a result, a healthy lifestyle and fitness became a way of life for him. He learned that the benefits outweigh the consequences. Moreover, it was a lesson learned up close and in person. As a retiree, he enjoys writing, gardening, motorcycling, traveling, and spending time with Tribune, his beloved wife. He is an alumnus of the University of Maryland, he also attended their Far East Division in Okinawa, Japan.
