Entre 1910 environ et le milieu des ann es 1930 appara t dans l'ouvre de Pierre Bonnard un vase au d cor assez banal de branches, de feuilles et de fruits de cerisiers. Objet n avant 1911 dans les ateliers de la fa encerie Lebacqz & Bouchart dans le nord de la France, ce pichet eau a fascin le peintre au point qu'il r alise une trentaine de tableaux - presque exclusivement des natures mortes mais aussi un nu et deux int rieurs. On sait que les objets rares int ressaient fort peu le peintre qui avait besoin de vivre durablement avec un objet pour en scruter sa valeur intrins que. M tamorphos par la couleur, l'objet semble chaque fois diff rent, parfois m connaissable. L'exposition est l'occasion de donner un clairage particulier cet objet culte pour un ?bonnardien? , inspirant pour le peintre qui a fait des mules sur ce sujet. Il a inspir une trentaine de peintures toutes reproduites dans ce catalogue sous la direction de V ronique Serrano. Un tiers est pr sent dans l'exposition, ainsi que des dessins.
