A True Relation Of The Holy War, Made By King Shaddai Upon Diabolus. Together With The Life Of Mr. Badman, Pharisee And Publican, Barren Fig-Tree, &C. 5 Pt., The 2Nd With A Separate Title-Leaf Dated 1811" by John Bunyan presents a compendium that entwines Bunyan's classic allegory The Holy War with the opening portions of Life and Death of Mr. Badman. The Holy War dramatizes the fall and redemption of Mansoul, a soul in a heavenly city besieged by Diabolus and defended by King Shaddai and Emanuel. The narrative tracks political and ceremonial rhetoric, slogans, and siege tactics as captains like Credence and Will-be-will struggle with deceit, temptation, and allegiance to divine sovereignty. Interwoven is the framing of moral instruction: the Mr. Badman sections warn against ungodliness through a dialogue between Wise-man and Attentive, tracing a life of sin to death and judgment. The combined work emphasizes justification by faith, genuine repentance, and the danger of hypocritical profession, while offering exhortation toward perseverance, holiness, and trust in divine mercy.
