This 1845 third edition of The Book of Archery, Being the Complete History and Practice of the Art, Ancient and Modern by George Agar Hansard compiles material on the history and practice of archery from antiquity through the nineteenth century. Published in London by Henry Bohn, the work includes discussion of legendary figures such as Robin Hood, as well as examinations of Native American archery practices, European schools of archery and crossbow use, and references to classical texts including Homer’s Odyssey and the Book of King Modus. The volume is illustrated with an engraved title, frontispiece, 13 engraved plates, and 24 outline plates.
