Exceptionally bright and tight second printing of this volume in "The Civilization of the American Indian Series." Notes front jacket panel, "Indispensable in the study of the great Maya civilization is the native literature of Yucatan, written in the Maya language but in the European script which the early Spanish missionaries adapted to express sounds not found in Spanish." "Chilam Balam" means Prophet Balam and presented are many chapters of this 1782 Mayan to Spanish translation.
