A rather attractive old printing of the Book of Common Prayer (with Rites and Ceremonies and Psalms) from the Clarendon Press, Oxford, 'and sold by E. Gardner at the Oxford Bible Warehouse, Paternoster Row, London'.

A nice leather binding with gilt embossed 'Common Prayer' on the spine (which is slightly damaged at top and bottom), and gilt outline on front and back covers (small tear in front where original label is missing). Some old water damage to the first few pages is not too intrusive (see photos). One gathering has come slightly loose, but still held firmly in place by its upper stitching.

On the flyleaf the signature of its owner, 'Miss Morrison of Bognie'. The Morrisons have held Bognie in Aberdeenshire since 1635, when Alexander Morrison and his wife Elizabeth Garden acquired the estate from James Crichton. They hold it still, the current (and thirteenth) Baron of Bognie being Alexander Morrison. I have not been able to discover who the particular 'Miss Morrison' was who owned this book.
