His innovate illuminated designs were very popular in Victorian society.This is his beautiful edition of the 'Book of Common Prayer', lavishly decorative with illuminatied illustrations throughout.Collected with other rites and ceremonies prevalent in the United Church of England and Ireland.Gift inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper, 'L. Mervyn Charles-Edwards, from Grace A. Upton, in grateful remembrance of helpful words spoke during the past year, August 1938-39, Market Drayton'. Charles-Edward was an Anglican bishop. In a full paper vellum binding. Externally, with some discolouration, as is usual with vellum. Small tide mark to the rear board. Small amount of loss to the head of the spine. With additional information on the service for Church, the order for reading scripture and morning and evening prayer. 'A Companion to the Altar showing the Nature and Necessity of a Sacramental Preparation' and 'The Psalms of David' have been bound in to the work, both dated 1824, with the latter being compiled by Nicholas Brady and Nahum Tate, who was poet laureate to his majesty. With an ink inscription of Robert Cooper Tattnall, from his godfather Robert Cooper, dated 1823. In full calf binding, with gilt detailing.
