With the fascinating provenance of an Antiguan sugar plantation owning family. The first work present is a 1786 edition of 'The Book of Common Prayer, and Administrations of the Sacraments, and other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church, According to the Use of the Church of England: Together with the Psalter or Psalms of David'.The second work is a 1783 edition of 'The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments: Translated out of the Original Tongues'. This work features an illustrated title page, general title page, and individual title page for the New Testament. Collated, illustrated with four large folding maps, and 132 plates. The final work here is a 1770 edition of 'The Whole book of Psalms, Collected into English Metre'.With the collation: [8] A-N4; A2, A-5K4, +A-2+A4, 5L-6Y4, 6Z3; A-G4ESTC reference for the Book of Common Prayer: N66721; ESTC reference for the Holy Bible T183597; ESTC reference for the Psalms: T231352To the front pastedown is an armorial bookplate with the words 'Fortune Favours the Bold' in Latin, and a contemporary owner's inscription of Thomas Inigo Wickham Freeman, 'born Sept 2nd 1794'. The Freeman family owned the highly profitable sugar plantation 'Freeman's Upper' in Antigua. With over 200 acres, they owned over 160 slaves at a time.To the rear pastedown is a lengthy insight into the Freeman family, written in Antigua on November 25th 1789. The note reads: 'Thomas Freeman the son of Thomas and Ann Freeman born Oct. 19, 1756. Married August 9. 1785 to Christian Ffrye daughter of Francis Ffrye and Dorothy his wife, born the 23. March 1766'. This is followed by information on the births, deaths and baptisms of ten individuals over the course of the following century, concluding with Caroline Freeman, who died at Bath Jan 23rd 1857.Loosely inserted is a leaf of paper detailing the births of the Mack family, detailing seven individuals, beginning with Louisa Mack, born October 15th 1758 in Leicester, to Henry Mack, born August 7th 1773 in the Parish of Songwood.A beautifully bound collection of very scarce Anglican works with an important family provenance and connection to the Slave Trade.
