A lovely small common prayer book in brown velvet, including Brady and Tate's new version of the Psalms and The New Testament. A lovely pocket sized The Book of Common Prayer, bound with The New Testament, and a new version of The Psalms of David by Nicholas Brady and Nahum Tate. The New Testament was published in 1841 by Oxford University Press, while The Book of Common Prayer and The Psalms of David were published in 1842.In reverse calf, with glit decorated end papers and boards edged in brass.Charming pocket books of prayer like these were very popular in nineteenth century Europe, with individuals being able to pray as they pleased wherever they were. The Common Book of Prayer contains many of the popular prayers said across the year, such as Ash Wednesday, as well as those read to the sick and the burial of the dead. Tate and Brady's Psalms were a very popular metrical version of the Psalms first written in 1696. In reverse calf. Externally, smart, with the odd faint mark. Cracking to the joints, near the head of the spine. Pages are bright and clean. Golden fore-edge in lovely condition. Glit end papers in lovely condition. Internally, firmly bound. Minor tide marks to blanks. Pages are bright and clean, with the rare small mark towards hinges. Very Good.
