Item description from seller

2 volumes in 1 each with 240 pages + 12 pages of contents. 80 Woodcut illustrations throughout. Drab grey cloth dull and worn at spine edges with small holes and wear at head & tail, some pages age browned including title, mainly to outer edge in, text not affected. Small octavo. *Bookplate inside front board "Mr William Morris No1434 Case 12" a small paper oval label also with 214 written and a bookseller label top of page "G. Mann, Bookseller, Cornhill". Another name "Isabella Willoby" on FFEP and a 3rd name in pencil top of title page "Thomas Rend Wilkinson, The Polygon, Ardwick, Manchester (An affluent area at this time in history). We can find no immediate connection on the card to state definitely it was THE William Morris, the library numbering might be the proof of ownership? He would have had visits to Manchester and he also had strong connections to our home town, here in North Staffs through Sir Thomas Wardle (Mill owner and philanthropist).

Store description

We are a small, single-owner business. We have been operating on and off since 1977 and our stock is varied, leaning towards antiquarian and 19th century with the addition of original aquatint and lithographic, or woodcut engravings. Also maps and Ephemera - in fact, anything interesting on paper really. We have in stock every item we list. We do not use stock photographs, but photograph each item individually. We very rarely use "fine" or "mint" as a description, mainly due to the age and the fact that 99.9% of what we sell has been pre-owned and therefor Fine would not be a term for a book we sell despite its fine-like appearance. We always take items back unreservedly if not in the condition as described. We always try to describe fully.…
