By the Book, From the Book: From Humble Beginnings, to Tragedy, to Redemption

The Mexican mafia, the Bloods and the Crips, O.J. Simpson, the Menendez brothers, and the many hardened criminals a deputy sheriff had to deal with from day to day in the LA County jails and streets.

This book details a young man who came from migrant parents with a calling to serve from a Christ-centered perspective. The calling to lay oneself down and to sacrifice life and limb despite the evil in this current society. From the honor and wisdom taught by a father, to loving compassion brought forth by a caring mother, which shaped and influenced a boy to become a man of God.

This is a story of a man who tried to live by honor, only to fall into sin and a self-indulgent lifestyle. Stepping away from the oath of holy living and a beautiful marriage and entering the depths of depravity and destruction that only the hand of God could restore.

Ed Roman's childhood dream was to enter the police force and serve his fellow citizens. That dream became a reality when he was sworn in as Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy in 1991. After twenty-five years of service across various positions within the department, Ed retired. During his career, he worked with some of the most notorious criminals in the country in Men's Central Jail and Twin Towers, which are two of the facilities making up the largest county jail system in the U.S. As a national recruiter for the Sheriff's Department, he has spoken at colleges, universities, high schools, and other venues on the value of police work as a calling and a duty. He also served as a community resources officer at Y.A.I., an after-school diversion program, inspiring teens to take up a career in law enforcement.
