The Book of 1 Peter: An Invitation to Form: Beauty Beneath Sacred Sufferings

1 Peter: An Invitation to Form: Beauty Beneath Sacred Sufferings

Perhaps one of the kindest qualities of God demonstrated through Jesus Christ His son, and empowered by the work of His Spirit, is the perpetual invitation to His people to FORM. Line by line, verse by verse throughout Scripture—Genesis through Revelation—reminds us again and again that God is actively on mission with mindful intentionality in the lives of people, nations, and even creation to transform that which is broken into something beautiful. The book of 1 Peter is no different.

1 Peter: An Invitation to Form: Beauty Beneath Sacred Sufferings is a twelve session study (5 chapters) of the Apostle Peter’s first written work which examines God’s heart and invitation to “form” through the things we suffer. Written to dispersed and persecuted believers (both Jew and Gentile) throughout northern Asia Minor during Nero’s oppressive Roman reign (54–68 AD), readers will notice:

• God’s awareness of suffering,
• His active involvement in suffering, and
• His invitation to “form” through suffering, remembering the example of Christ, while depending on the power of his Spirit to do the work.

Will you consider God’s invitation to “form” as you embrace His word in 1 Peter, allowing His Spirit to reform and transform you through the things you suffer?

Will you notice God’s beautiful example in nature—the geode, illustrated throughout the book—which visually aids our understanding of the reality that priceless gems can arise from common ordinary rock?

Come join in. Allow God access to your story—beginning, middle, and end—and watch Him create astounding beauty beneath your sacred sufferings.

And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, strengthen, confirm, and ground you. 1 Peter 5:10 (Legacy Standard Bible)
