About the Author

Running is one of several themes that run through my life. From the time I was a kid, growing up in a small town, I've loved to run. It's a pity that talent doesn't necessarily follow passion -- but it doesn't. But I ran, anyway -- through high school and college and graduate school, just loving the sense of being in motion and being fit. At work, I ran at noon. I'd run in any weather. I've also been a life-long lover of great books and writing. Making a living for many years as a business writer, I'd often sneak away and read for a time to refresh my soul. In the evenings, I'd write my own stuff. The Army slowed me down some. You can't run in the jungles of Vietnam. But I picked up where I left off the day I returned, and have been running ever since. I retired early to do my own thing -- writing novels, short stories and a memoir of my tour in Vietnam (called "Vietnam Revisited"). I just can't imagine my life without running. On the hardest days, I think, "Okay, but later I will run."
