Custer. 1885 early edition (with "With Portrait and Map" printed on the title page, though lacking the date); Harper & Brothers; New York. The book features an engraved frontispiece portrait of General Custer with his facsimile signature, and a full-page "Outline Map of Portions of Montana & Dakota." From a review: "Boots and Saddles offers a gentle, loving portrait of George Armstrong Custer, husband and man, by the person who knew him best. Elizabeth Custer's absolute devotion to him is revealed in every line of her story, which ends, appropriately enough, with the day on which she received the news of the disaster at Little Bighorn." Condition: There are some small stains on the covers. There are portions along the left half of the back cover where the beige cloth has faded. There are a couple small areas at the left edge of the spine where the cloth has chipped away. Tiny cloth tears at the cover corners, and at the top/bottom edges of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Consistent foxing to the pages throughout, with an occasional small stain here and there. There is an inscription written in pen dated 1895 on the front end paper. The rear end paper has some writing in pen at the top-left corner (the content is related to the Custers). Small 'Brentanos' bookshop label affixed to the rear pastedown. Overall the book is in Good condition. Seller Inventory # ABE-1718044066208
