Susan S. Trout, Ph.D., is executive director of the Institute for the Advancement of Service in Alexandria, Virginia. She coordinates and develops support and study programs, trains group leaders, leads workshops in personal growth, trains facilitators for those having physical, emotional or spiritual health needs, and develops research projects in mind-body-spirit disciplines.

In service organizations in Alaska, Illinois, and California, Dr. Trout worked as a specialist and researcher in communication and neurological disorders. She spent fourteen years as a professor, chairperson, and researcher at the University of the Pacific and University of California Medical Centers in San Francisco. In 1980, she co-founded the Institute for the Advancement of Service.

Dr. Trout holds graduate degrees from Stanford and Northwestern universities in psychoneurology, deaf education, audiology, speech pathology, and communication disorders. She has authored several professional articles and facilitator training manuals for adults and adolescents. She is also the author of To See Differently, published by Three Roses Press in 1990.
