Bouncing Back

We frequently hear about the accomplishments of world-class athletes during their playing careers, but what happens when the time comes to pivot from the athletic world to a typical civilian life?

In Bouncing Back: Athletic Transition Successes, Failures, and Lessons Learned along the Way, author Patrick Finnegan-a former Division-1 college football quarterback-tells the stories of athletes who, like him, had to figure out how to transition from their intense training days and competitive world without losing their identity, focusing on illuminating and mitigating the mental health issues associated with an identity-shifting transition.

You'll learn about how athletes handle retirement, injuries, and other transitions through stories from:

• Ramona Shelburne, ESPN NBA Insider and Senior writer and former Stanford Softball star
• Myriam Glez, two-time Olympic Synchronized Swimmer and founder of Athletes' Soul
• Brian Ching, former US Men's National Soccer Team player and MLS MVP
• Mary Ricks, former NCAA Softball Champion at UCLA, now President of a multi-billion dollar Global Real Estate firm
• Michael Chabala, a ten-year MLS veteran turned fitness startup founder

Bouncing Back is a must-read if you're interested in understanding what happens to athletes at the conclusion of their careers and what the retirement process entails. Athletes will welcome insight into the transition process.
