129pp plus 28pp advertisements for other books from publisher. Orange/brown cloth boards with titles in black on spine. Binding tight, spine straight, corners square. Foxing to front page ends. Internal contents of book are otherwise clean and unmarked, both text block and diagrams. White dust jacket with titles on spine and front panel in black. Shelfwear and dirt on jacket, but it remains intact, with clear, bold print and is in a new mylar cover. Giltay details the construction and function of bowed instruments, including the violin.

The Chatham Bookseller has been in historic Madison, NJ for more than fifty years. Ours is a general shop which emphasizes good literature, art and scholarly books in many different fields. We specialize in rare books, modern first editions and ephemera. The shop is open six days a week and we encourage browsing. We are happy to bring out books listed online upon request. We also do book searches and appraisals. Since April 2026, The Chatham Bookseller has been owned and operated by Kate Park. The store hours are 10-5:30 Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturday and 11-4 on Sunday. …
