Item description from seller

Hand coloured game board, 480 x 640 mm. in modern slip case. Joints and edges a little worn. One of the earliest educational board games, this shows all the most recent discoveries. Van Diemen's Land [Tasmania] is shown as part of Australia; it was not until 1798 that British explorers George Bass and Matthew Flinders successfully sailed their small whaleboat completely around it. This expedition proved the existence of the separating body of water, which was later named Bass Strait.
