Flyer for "Boxing Match: A Confrontational Play in 10 Rounds" by Holly Solomon, presented by 98 Greene Street Lofts and held at Clancy s Telstar Gym on March 17 and 18, 1972. An important New York collector and gallerist, Holly Solomon opened one of the city s first alternative art spaces, 98 Greene Street Lofts, in 1969. There she hosted poetry readings, dance performances, and concerts as well as exhibitions that provided early exposure for artists including Laurie Anderson, Gordon Matta-Clark, and Robert Mapplethorpe. Although 98 Greene Street Lofts closed in 1973, Solomon and her husband opened Holly Solomon Gallery in 1975, which remained in operation in SoHo until her death in 2002. That this flyer was mailed to filmmaker Jonas Mekas reflects a growing network of spaces for experimental art, film, and theater in downtown Manhattan in the 1970s. Offset with address label and postage stamp affixed to verso. 8 1?2 x 11 in. Very good; horizontal lines from folding in thirds, small tear (approx. 1?4 in.) at left edge along fold line, and area of discoloration on recto as a result of adhesive bleed from verso.
