It was a real treat for children all over America, to receive a new book every week, especially in the quiet summer months. I know this, as I was one of those children who anxiously awaited the arrival of the next book. This wonderful service made me a lifelong reader. The books were sold en masse, therefore, they used a lower-grade paper, having a higher acid content. 75 years later, they tend to have some discoloration on the edges of the pages from exposure to humidity.
