In this book, the authors have adapted Eric Jensen’s 10 principles that need to be implemented in the classroom for a brain-compatible approach to teaching and learning. These principles include uniqueness, emotions, nutrition, and elimination of threat. The book also provides basic information about the brain, ways to teach students about the brain, and dozens of practical brain-based activities for students of every age.
Colleen Politano, M.Ed., is a consultant working for school districts and the Bureau of Education & Research in British Columbia. She presents workshops on a wide variety of topics, including literacy, brain-based learning, differentiated instruction, multi-age classrooms, and authentic assessment. Colleen was a classroom teacher for 36 years and a recipient of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation Hilroy Fellowship for innovation in education. She has co-authored several books.
Joy Paquin [d. 2004] believed that her three children were the sources of her best ideas in education. Joy taught a multi-age primary classroom in Victoria, British Columbia. The classroom was a shining example of child-centered education and a place wher
