Synopsis:

Through a collection of memoirs and inspirational reflections, the author describes his experiences as a neurosurgeon and native of India working in the United States. He contrasts the medical practices of his homeland with those of the United States and offers touching portraits of his father and grandfather, both doctors in India. He also shares his personal triumph over the forces of bigotry and materialism in the medical profession.

About the Author: Dr. Timir Banerjee, a retired, board-certified neurosurgeon, was born in India and educated in India and the United States. He has published numerous medical articles, presented many scientific papers, and written a medical book: Signs, Syndromes, and Eponyms: Our Legacy (AANS, 1999). Currently a professor of Neuro-Anatomy at the Kigezi International School of Medicine in Cambridge, England, he has served on the professional staff at the universities of North Carolina and Wisconsin. His volunteer work takes him to such distant locales as Nepal, Peru, India, Brazil, and Zimbabwe. Dr. Banerjee also served as a Commander in the United States Naval Reserve and is an active member of the Senatorial Circle. He now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where he enjoys gardening, writing, and the company of his children.
