Breakthrough: Emerging New Thinking : Soviet and Western Scholars Issue a Challenge to Build a World Beyond War (English and Russian Edition)

Essays discuss nuclear proliferation, the prevention of nuclear war, international politics, superpower cooperation, disarmament, and socialism

This volume, simultaneously published in Russian, presents essays by Western and Soviet scholars on the issue of "new thinking about peace and war." On both sides the tone is urgent, as it must be. The context is defined by the new themes of openness and transformation associated with General Secretary Gorbachev. Each participant has risen to the challenge of "thinking globally," bearing in mind that human survival is at stake. For once these are not two solitudes bellowing at each other in Cold War terms. Perhaps inevitably, the chapters by Soviet participants seem the most interesting. For general readers as well as specialists. R. H. Johnston, McMaster Univ., Hamilton, Ontario
