Breath of the Eternal: The Holy Spirit in Scripture, the Church, and the Soul

The Holy Spirit is the most hidden and least understood Person of the Trinity-yet nothing in the Christian life exists without Him. From the breath that moved over the waters of creation to the fire that descended at Pentecost, Scripture reveals the Spirit as the One who gives life, sanctifies the Church, and draws humanity into communion with God.

Breath of the Eternal is a comprehensive theological exploration of the Holy Spirit's work across the whole of salvation history. Moving from Genesis to the prophets, from the Incarnation to the Cross, from Pentecost to the interior life of the believer, Matthew Sardon presents the Spirit not as an abstract force, but as the living presence of God at work in creation, redemption, and sanctification.

Drawing deeply from Scripture, the Church Fathers, and both Eastern and Western Christian tradition, this book shows how the Spirit purifies the heart, illumines the mind, strengthens virtue, and forms Christ within the soul. The same Spirit who hovered over the waters at the dawn of creation continues His work in the Church through the sacraments, prayer, suffering, mission, and hope of glory.

Structured around four theological movements-Creation, Anointing, Indwelling, and Glory-Breath of the Eternal offers a unified vision of Christian life as participation in divine life, rather than mere moral effort. It invites readers to rediscover Christianity as a Spirit-filled journey of transformation, healing, and communion.

Written for seekers, students, clergy, and all who desire a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit, this book calls the reader to encounter the Spirit who creates, anoints, dwells within, and brings all things to their fulfillment-so that the human person may become, by grace, fully alive.
