The Bride of the Isles (Fantasy and Horror Classics)

He is noble. He is seductive. He must marry you to consume you.

Lady Margaret is troubled by prophetic visions of her own death--a terrifying visitation from a supernatural fiend intent on draining her blood. Her nightmares soon become reality when her betrothed arrives in the Scottish Isles: the aristocratic, charming, and utterly villainous Lord Ruthven.

Ruthven is the creature of rumor and dread, the eponymous Vampire whose existence is rooted in a curse that prevents his rest. To maintain his dreadful existence, he must perform a series of blood-sacrifices, and for his next victim, he has chosen Margaret. Desperately trying to save his daughter, Margaret's father, Lord Ronald, races to expose the true, otherworldly identity of the man who claims to be the Earl of Marsden. But Ruthven is protected by dark powers and a handsome facade that bewitches the innocent.

This groundbreaking Romantic Melo-Drama, adapted from John Polidori s famous short story, established the vampire as a seductive, sophisticated figure of nobility on the English stage in 1820. Margaret and her family must race against the rising sun to defeat the immortal predator before the wedding vows make her the Bride of the Isles.
