2 vols., 8vo., Second and Best Edition, with coloured frontispieces, titles in red and black, 23 fine coloured plates by Wyllie, 17 plates in monochrome, 11 plates of portraits, and 23 illustrations, plans and diagrams in the text; original pictorial blue cloth gilt, cloth backs gilt, backstrips mildly faded else a very good, clean copy. This standard work was first published in 1912 (though NMM gives 1914). This edition is 'revised and brought up to date in order to present to the reader the exact state of our Navy when the fighting began'. Nice set of this important survey, augmented by Wyliie's splendid colour plates. NMM V/1 2558 (recording the original edition).
