Gilt stamped blue cloth over card, large 8vo (9-1/2 inches tall), text w. speckled edges, pp. xx, 596, fold-out map bound in at front, publishers "Caution When Approaching British Ports. . 9/08" used as front pastedown, index, list of sailing directions, list of Admiralty agents for the sale of charts, two publisher's rubber stamps regarding acquisitions of future supplements noted at bottom corner of title page. Binding with edge wear and a few small dings, toning to text block edges, a five inch fold line tear to map with a small triangular-shaped loss [see photo], else clean and unmarked throughout. A clean copy, in original publishers' binding as issued. An uncommon edition (later editions were larger and published in two volumes) with no copies of this edition located by OCLC (accessed 01/21).
