Buddha Is a Greeter at Walmart: Using Zen in Everyday Life

A #1 Amazon Best Seller in Zen Buddhism! -- The idea is simple: everyday items and situations as sources of Zen insight. From a junk drawer to a butterfly. From Ginger Rogers to Colonel Mustard. We’re surrounded by items and situations which teach Zen—if we just take the time to see. Zen is a perfect antidote to the noise and untruths of daily life. Yet for many people, Zen is something that requires rigorous study, years of solitary meditation, dressing in odd garb, and quoting Buddha. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Everyday life is Zen. You are the only real Zen master you’ll ever need. You just need to look, see and reality will take care of the rest.

Zen is everywhere and Zen is everyone—even the greeter at Walmart. In this book, everyday items and occurrences combine with impressionistic takes on classic Zen stories to "point at the moon" -- to help you garner a bit more insight into your Zen.

From the co-author of the well-received "Life Between the Tigers", which the Midwest Book Review said should be on every Buddhist's bookshelf, and the forthcoming "The Girl by the Side of the Road", "Buddha is a Greeter at Walmart" is the Zen book you've been looking for.

Kris Neely is the co-author of the well-received "Life between the Tigers" as well as author of the forthcoming "The Girl by the Side of the Road." He is also working on a re-interpretation of a classic Zen book, "The Religion of the Samurai: A Study of Zen Philosophy" originally authored by Kaiten Nukariya. Mr. Neely has been studying Zen, Buddhism, and Taoism for decades, ever since his Mom plopped him in front of a TV and made him watch a program about Zen presented by the eminent Zen scholar Alan Watts. Mr. Neely's aim is to interpret Zen, Buddhism, and Taoism is ways that attract new people to the subjects. "Buddha is a Greeter at Walmart" took Kris several years to complete and reflects the author's personality, warmth, and (somewhat wacky) sense of humor. Mr. Neely is also the published author of several books and scores of articles on information technology -- and is an award-winning theatrical director and actor. He lives in Northern California.
