8vo, 20.5cm, 24p., appendix, disbound, self wraps, fine (n12). - Thomas Flindell (1767-1824), newspaper editor and printer, started the Royal Cornwall Gazette in Truro in 1803 representing the interest of the local Tory gentry. Edward Budd created a rival Cornwall paper that represented the opposite political interest and the two publishers were at constant loggerheads for many years. They carried out in their disputes in both their papers and in pamphlets. The letter in question on the subject of Constitutional Reform, by A. Freeman in 1809, reflected Flindell's conservative leanings. An interesting item of British and Cornwall history demonstrating the political volatility of the times.
