This is a true story of a family who learned how to care for a buffalo herd. The author, Jean Cummings, her husband--a newly trained surgeon--and their children settled in Stanwood, a village tucked into the wild forests of central Michigan. It was not the life Mrs. Cummings had expected. When her husband announced he was going to raise buffalo she didn't take him seriously, but in the spring of 1964 the arrival of thirteen buffalo changed their lives. Her husband became known as The Buffalo Doctor.
