The combination of science facts, coloring pages, and hands-on activities make Bug, Bug, Spider! a great tool for teaching children about butterflies grasshoppers, spiders, snails, and all the other tiny animals who live in our backyards.
Last summer, we had a "pet" spider living just outside our living room window.
Okay--we didn't feed it and we definitely didn't hold it, so it wasn't much of a pet. But we did like watching it!
The spider would hide for most of the day. Then, in the evening, it would crawl out into the middle of its web and start working. One time, a second spider showed up to visit, and we watched for several minutes as the two spiders darted back and forth in tiny dashes, waving their front legs in the air.
I haven't always been excited about bugs and spiders, but as I've started to watch them, I've realized that they are fascinating! As an artist, I wanted to create images to capture this fascination, and somehow that project turned into a coloring book.
Here it is now, just for you . . . Bug, Bug, Spider: a science-themed coloring book with a light touch of whimsy!
