The Buik O Ruth and Ither Wark in Lallans. By Alex S. Borrowman. This is a Scots language rendering of the Book of Ruth from the New English Bible, accompanied by a small group of additional pieces (“ither wark”) in Lallans, the mid 20th century literary Scots idiom.

Alex S. Borrowman's The Buik o Ruth and Ither Wark in Lallans (1979) offers a clear, affectionate rendering of the Book of Ruth into mid century Lallans, part of the wider Scots language revival fostered by small presses such as Gordon Wright of Edinburgh. Borrowman follows the New English Bible closely, shaping a version that is both faithful and idiomatic, with a few additional short pieces rounding out the volume. A modest 47 page production, it is now an uncommon example of late 20th century Scots biblical translation. Original printed card covers. Stapled as issued. 47 pages, 1 portrait. Size: 14 x 23 cms.
