How to Build a Healthy Home: And Prevent the Negative Impacts on Your Health that Can Result from Poorly Executed Green Building Initiatives

Building or Remodeling? If you want your home to be healthy, you need this book.

A lot of new houses are being built "green". Green does not mean healthy. Green means environmentally friendly and energy efficient building practices. It's nice to think about the environment and reducing energy consumption, but what about creating a healthy environment for the people living in the building - you and your family. Your house should be the safest, healthiest place to be.

This book explains the difference between building green and building healthy. Starting with a brief history of green, it navigates the reader through the jungle of green building codes and product labels, explaining how to pick and choose the ones to create a healthy home. You will learn which products and materials to avoid and how to choose healthy:

Paint and finishes
Floors, doors and windows
Appliances, cabinets and countertops

Key topics include:

How to prevent mold
Reducing EMFs (Electromagnetic Fields)
Ventilation

Chapters are dedicated to helping you create healthy:

Kitchens
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
Garage & Basement

A special section on Remodeling explains how to keep the dust down and allergy-proof your home during a remodeling project.

This book will help you create a set of specifications any builder can follow to make your home the healthiest you've ever lived in.

Real world examples are given with advice to help prevent the negative impacts on your health that can result from poorly executed green initiatives.
