The very scarce 1854 edition or Volume XII of 'The Builder', an architectural journal that published in the UK in the 19th and 20th centuries.Rebound in half calf with cloth boards.Now known as 'Building', it remains as one of the country's oldest business-to-business magazines, launched in 1843 by Joseph Aloysius Hansom - architect of Birmingham Town Hall and designer of the Hansom Cab.This volume opens with a follow-up of the Dublin Industrial Exhibition of the previous year and of the Crystal Palace at Sydenham. Its first engraved plate shows the Pompeian Court, the first completed section of the Sydenham building, and articles pop up over the year concerning its architectural developments.Other articles cover a plethora of news, such as the proposal and illustrated plans of the Westminster Bridge. With numerous business advertisements throughout the work.Replete with pleasing illustrations throughout, including forty-seven plates and many in-text, as well as numerous full-page plans.Conducted by George Godwin, an influential British architect, journalist and Fellow of the Royal Society. Rebound in half calf with cloth boards. Externally, with heavy wear to the spine and joints, resulting in loss of leather to the spine tail. Marks and fading to the boards, as well as general rubbing to the extremities. Internally, binding failed for pages 373-504, however all pages are present and still grouped. Pages are generally bright and clean, with occasional spotting, heavier to certain areas. Good Only.
