About this title

Synopsis

Good/Mayhew, Building Your Dream brings a practical, hands-on approach to Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Good focuses on start-up versus managing a small business and walks the students through the fundamental 11-stage approach that is involved in starting a business. The students benefit from this ‘how to’, action-oriented approach. Students will understand what it takes to succeed in an entrepreneurial career from understanding the skills needed, to conducting a feasibility study; how to finance a new business, to completing a Business Plan by the end of the semester.

About the Author

Wendy Mayhew is an accomplished businesswoman with a flair for helping first-time entrepreneurs establish successful businesses. Drawing on early experience in the telecom and satellite technology sectors, Wendy is always on the watch for innovative ways to harness technology in the service of business needs. Among the first to recognize the potential of social media to gather business intelligence, engage clients, and market products and services, Wendy’s perspective on web-assisted business development is particularly appealing to today’s generation of would-be entrepreneurs. An example of Wendy’s innovative approach is the recent completion of a 13-part reality Web series entitled Real World Entrepreneur Training. Incorporated into a digital course on the McGraw-Hill Ryerson Connect platform, the behind-the-scenes videos and associated teaching and learning material provide fascinating insights as entrepreneurs and their advisers grapple with the many challenges of establishing a business. As a professional adviser and as a long-time volunteer contributor to the Canadian Youth Business Foundation and other organizations focused on entrepreneurial development, Wendy continues to share how-to advice and success strategies with business startups across Canada.
