As the injustices and pains of a multi-ethnic society are increasingly foregrounded, so the need becomes more apparent for the churches to fulfill their biblical vocation to be communities of ethnic and social diversity, joined together by a common worship and service to the Lord Jesus.

About the Author

John Root is Associate vicar of St Ann's, Tottenham. He has had almost fi fty years of experience ministering in multiethnic London, and was for three years Vice-Principal of Ridley Hall, Cambridge. His wife Sheila is of Malaysian and Hindu background, and they have an adult son. He blogs at 'Out of Many, One People' on issues of multi-ethnic faith and church life. Otherwise he enjoys Liverpool F C, Bob Dylan and London generally.
