Building a New Empire traces the real-life experiences of early settlers as they move west to tame the frontier.
It offers a firsthand look at the hopes, risks, and hard choices that defined a growing nation’s expansion.
This edition follows Tan Myers as he contemplates leaving a comfortable clerking job to pursue a homestead in Nebraska and other western lands. It also delves into the climate of nascent states, the lure of new opportunities, and the way railroads and markets shaped the settlement era. Through vivid scenes of cattle drives, winter hardships, and the evolving legal and political landscape, the narrative paints a broad portrait of a nation building itself anew.- See how emigration, technology, and policy converged to open the plains
- Learn about cattle ranching, round-ups, and the dangers of prairie winters
- Understand the challenges of frontiers courts, governance, and law in new counties
- Get a sense of daily life, community, and the people who helped forge the West

Store description
